How to Install Check Factory VS on a new LAN StationOnce Check Factory VS is installed, NEVER reinstall or uninstall using the original setup program. NEVER! Using the original setup program to install a station usually results in installing an empty unregistered copy of Check Factory on the station's local C drive. Check Factory will then come up in DEMO MODE. This is page describes the CORRECT way to install a LAN station.
Perform this procedure IF Check Factory VS is installed and working on other LAN stations or you have installed Check Factory VS on the server and you need to install it on a station.
NEVER reinstall or uninstall using the original setup program. NEVER!
You may choose to update to the most recent version. The most recent version is contained in WorkstationSetupVS.exe available here:
1> Close Check Factory VS on ALL stations including the server
2> On the new station:
Reboot the station (we are installing system drivers here. A reboot clears any old driver versions from memory)
From the new station Navigate to the Check Factory VS folder on the share.
Because we are installing a printer driver, you must be logged on to the station as a local administrator and have access to the server share.
If you are prompted to un install please uninstall, then run WorkstationSetupVS again to install.
If you get an access denied error it is because Check Factory is open in on another station and the installer is trying to replace files in the Check Factory BIN folder. Either close Check Factory on those stations or tell the installer that you do not want to update the Check Factory Program files. If you are updating to a newer version you MUST update the Check Factory program files.
Check Factory VS will now be installed on the station. The Check Factory VS driver will appear in your list of printers. Program menu shortcuts will be installed on the station for Check Factory VS. You will have access to the Check Factory VS data on the server.
Once Check Factory VS is installed, NEVER reinstall or uninstall using the original setup program. NEVER!
Reboot the stations
99% of all problems can be resolved by rebooting each station (do not start Check Factory VS after the reboot), and then navigate to the Check Factory VS folder on the server and run WorkstationSetupVS on the station. Do not run Check Factory VS on any station untill all stations have been upgraded.
Don't forget that Check Factory VS must be running and minimized on the station prior to printing to the Check Factory VS printer otherwise you will get an Error -30 Printer not Activated.
Clear the BIN folder
If you continue to get file access errors it is because a station or the server has one or more files in the Check Factory VS for xxxx\BIN folder locked. Clear the contents of the BIN folder. If you cannot clear the contents of the BIN folder you must discover why. Contact your network administrator. You may have to reboot each station and possibly the server to clear the lock.
Error code -41 indicates you were not logged on as a local
administrator when you ran WorkstationSetupVS and the Check Factory
VS driver was not fully installed.
